New Changes in 2019

U.S. Rehab will plan to implement some changes to Tech Training, including shortening the length and layout of the seminars, implementing a reimbursement session with expert Dan Fedor, and inviting additional manufacturers to present on their equipment.

 - This year, U.S. Rehab hopes to shorten the seminar from 3 days down to 2 days.

 - The different levels of the seminar will change from Beginning and Advanced to include an Intermediate level.

Dan Fedor’s Reimbursement Session
U.S. Rehab is also bringing Director of Reimbursement Dan Fedor to present on “Documentation for Repairs” as part of the seminar. In this section, Dan will discuss how to effectively AND efficiently document the repair (parts, labor and "loaner" if applicable) to ensure maximum reimbursement.
Dan said, "Let's face it - time is limited and the tech is there to repair the wheelchair and not write documentation. However, there are certain things that must be noted in order for the supplier to get paid for the repair."

New Manufacturers
In the past, U.S. Rehab has invited trainers from Permobil, Sunrise Medical, Motion Concepts, MK Battery, Avid Rehab, and FIOS DME Repair Training to present on their products. This year, U.S. Rehab is inviting a few more manufacturers to best serve the techs at these trainings. Some of the invited manufacturers include Pride Mobility and Permobil Manual Wheelchairs (TiLite).

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the tools that a wheelchair technician needs to rapidly correctly diagnose and perform repairs on manual and power wheelchairs.
  2. Explain the operation of the major electrical components used in wheelchair controllers.
  3. Demonstrate the procedures necessary to trouble shoot electrical issues with wheelchair electronics.
  4. Select and inspect batteries for the DME industry.

VGM Education is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program. Class size is limited to ensure one-on-one intensive training.

  • Power equipment: Basic programming of power chair electronics, acceleration, speed, and other foundational programming tools.

This is best suited for technicians that have less than one year of experience in the industry.

*NOTE: Before registering for the beginner session, we recommend that technicians FIRST take our online course. Click here for more information on "The Fundamentals of Repair."

Intermediate Track

The intermediate track provides an overview for seating and positioning, CRT wheelchairs, and power programming introduction. This track contains information on:

  • CRT manual equipment: Aspects of proper set up and adjustments to CRT rigid frame wheelchairs
  • Seating basics: Evaluate potential seating issues and adjusting equipment appropriately based on evaluation.

Online Tech Training

If sending techs to an onsite training is not an option, U.S. Rehab provides an alternative with our online Tech Training programs.

This new online training has been developed into three different parts to accommodate the three training levels of the DMERT certification. To obtain each level certification, technicians must pass an online theory exam and in-person competency exam.
